I’m 50 this year, a Mom of one and love traveling. A lot of this I do on my own and love it. I would like to share a couple of photos of my journey walking the Camino ce Copastella in September. I walked the French Way, it takes 6 weeks from start to finish so most people do it in sections, I went from Sarria and it took 5 days to walk. The scenery as you can see is fantastic and the craic is mighty, lots of nice Albergues along the way to stop and have a nice cold beer or glass of wine. Its a great way to meet people from all over the world, all ages and if your traveling alone I would recommend the Albergues(Hostels) its a great way to meet people and it’s very safe. If you get the film The Way starring Martin Sheen and his son Emillio it will give you a great insight into what it’s about. I booked it myself, the flight was 150 euro to Santiago then I got 2 public buses to Sarria and they were only a couple of euro and got an Albergue online before I went just to be sure and that was 10 euro. You can get a perigrino meal all along the route for 10 euro, that’s 3 courses and a bottle of wine, yes you heard me right 10 euro. I promise you that you will want to go back time and time again and do different sections. You can also go from Portugal and it ends in Santiago aswell. I’m not religious but the Cathedral at the end in Santiago is magnificent. I hope this encourages you to try something different this year if like me, you like traveling alone.
I watched the film the Way with Martin Sheen and his son Emilio Estefan and was just desperate to go do it. I really enjoyed all the training I did for it, I went on beautiful walks in Wicklow and walked from Clontarf to Dunlaoighre a few times to get ready for it. You really need to do some preparation for it, I saw a few people with swollen knees and legs because they hadn’t done any training. If like me, you like walking, well it’s a joy to get out into the fresh air and walk for miles somewhere nice. There are lots of hiking trails and walking clubs available just google them. I’m heading out to Australia and New Zealand at the end of the year to do some back packing so your never to old to head off traveling and I’m going it alone so no more excuses off those of you who like me are hitting 50, single again after 26 years of marriage. Get out and do something different you wont look back.
