OnTheQT came across a real hidden gem near Killeagh, Co. Cork recently and we had the opportunity to shoot a QT video to show you guys. We stumbled upon a great little garden centre and we soon found out it was much more then your average garden centre. Not only did they have the most amazing flowers, hedging, shrubs, fruit bushes and much more but they had the most amazing organic foods growing on site. From potatoes, tomatoes, berries, carrots, free-range eggs and much much more! (QT TIP: Pick up amazing fresh, organic veg during your trip and have a lovely free coffee or tea as your kids explore the playground and are amazed at the hens roaming around the grounds).
Barry’s Nurseries is a small family run business near Killeagh in East Cork and as you walk through the doors you are greeted with a smile and a helping hand. It was just amazing to walk around and explore the beautiful gardens and healthy plants. It is a great location for our little QT’s also as there is a great little playground to occupy them as you explore the surroundings. Also I am positive they will love seeing the hens in their natural habitat walking around the garden centre. Not only is this a garden centre to relax and enjoy but you can also get your organic potatoes, fruit and veg (QT Tip: Nowadays, kids dont see where their food comes from. At Barry’s you can show them their potatoes being pulled from the ground).
If you cant pop to Killeagh each week, you can always get your fresh produce at the farmers market. Douglas Farmers market takes place every Saturday morning where you can purchase the fresh, organic foods from Barry’s Nurseries lovely staff. The market supply plants, flowers, fruit and veg plants, while also providing their carrots, potatoes, tomatoes and lots of other organic veg(All picked that morning at the farm).
Go for a spin this weekend, explore the garden centre, have a coffee while your kids play in the playground and pick up all your organic fruit and veg for the week!
Directions:
Enter Killeagh and turn left at ‘The Old Thatch’ if coming from Cork / Midleton, but right if you’re coming from Youghal.
