We were delighted to be invited to attend the launch of Wonderlights 2025 and it was the most magical experience to see the wonder, delight and amazement on our two year old’s face as we were transported into a world of light and wonder.
In Cork this year, the theme celebrates the natural beauty of Fota’s gardens after dark. Fota House and gardens is one of my favourite places to go for a coffee and a walk with Rose during the year so seeing it transformed at night into this magical experience was just wonderful.
Rose at the moment just loves all things surrounding nature and animals so this years theme was a big hit with her. The light showcases wildlife and sculptures of animals that once wandered Fota. Some of the magical installations included deer, foxes, squirrels and Rose’s absolute favourite were the big bears. Seeing her eyes light up as she kept discovering more and more animals shining bright was just magical. She kept saying “what animal is next Mama”. It can be hard at that age to keep their attention throughout but honestly this was just perfect. The “movie” as Rose called it, displayed on Fota House towards the end was just breathtaking and a lovely addition to the display. A night of wonder as we walked through the display and were hit with pops of colour and natural beauty. We put together a short video on our experience which you can view here.
At the end you can pop for a bit to eat in the food and drink village. Whether you want something savoury such as chips, burgers, sausages and more or you want to tickle your taste buds with something sweet such as hot chocolate, sweets, donuts or chocolate covered strawberries. There is something for everyone to enjoy under the festive lights.
Wonderlights is Ireland’s largest light show experience and takes place in Fota House, Malahide Castle and Gardens and Marley Park. The winter wonderland event opened to the public in Fota House from November 6th and will open in Malahide Castle & Gardens on November 14th and Marlay Park on November 20th. It will run in all three locations right up to December 28th. Be sure to look into the preview weekend as you can save up to 40% on tickets, with tickets from €15.
