It was our last day in Iceland so Episode 3 sums up a great trip. In this episode, we enjoyed a few hours of relaxation in the Blue Lagoon and we chatted to Inga of Reykjavik Excursions all about their exciting tours. After a chat over coffee, I am already planning my trip back to try even more of their adventures.
THE BLUE LAGOON
I was looking forward to this day for so long. It was a dream of mine to experience the famous Blue Lagoon and in this episode I finally ticked another experience off my travel bucket list. The Blue Logoon is one of the 25 wonders in the world and is a must while visiting Iceland. The geothermal water originates 2,000 metres below the surface, where freshwater and seawater combine at extreme temperatures. On its way to the surface, the water picks up silica and minerals. When the water emerges, its temperature is generally between 37°C and 40°C (98-104°F). The geothermal water has a unique composition, featuring three active ingredients – Silica, Algae and Minerals.
A few things to note: You also must pre-book your tickets for the blue lagoon and we would recommend doing this a few weeks before your trip to make sure you get the time you want. Once you are in the lagoon, you can stay in as long as you like. The Blue Lagoon Iceland is a must – It is only 10 minutes from the airport so if you can plan it well you can get the bus straight there from the airport or before your flight. Otherwise you go 40 minutes into Reykjavík city and you have to go 50 minutes back out to it from Reykjavík when you want to go to the Blue Lagoon. There are lockers there for cases and all. Saves you time on your trip. I would also recommend putting a little conditioner in your hair before you enter the lagoon as your hair can feel very hard afterwards if not.
This was an experience of a lifetime. You can stay in the Blue Lagoon as long as you like once you enter. There are lots of different packages you can choose from starting at 6100ISK which is approximately €48. The premium package is the most popular package as it gives you the best experience at €80(10200ISK). You can view all the packages and book your slot here.
REYKJAVIK EXCURSIONS
We chatted to Inga from Reykjavik Excursions in this episode and she filled us in on all their tours, her favourite experiences, transport in Iceland and she also shared all her top tips.
- For transport from the airport to your hotel or the Blue Lagoon, Reykjavik Excursions is the best. Book the FlyBus here. If you book the flybus it will just bring you to the bus station and you will need to get a taxi or another bus from there. We recommend booking the FlyBus+ which will bring you to the bus station and then onto your designated bus stop, selected hotels & guesthouses in Reykjavík. Book here for your transport tickets.
- In episode 1, we also did the warm bath and cool lights tour with Reykjavík Excursions. This is one of Inga’s favourite tours. During this trip, you drive via the UNESCO site Þingvellir National Park. On arrival to the Laugarvatn Fontana, you get to enjoy a local style dinner buffet You then get to Laugarvatn Fontana to bath in the geothermal bath for the evening. Sometimes, you can actually see the northern lights from the baths but it was cloudy on the day so we went on an Northern Lights hunt afterwards. We were very lucky to see the lights during our hunt. The tour starts at 6pm until 12:30pm.
- Inga also recommended the Golden Circle tour which will give you a real taste of Iceland and show you the top attractions – Gullfoss Waterfall, Geysir geothermal area, the UNESCO site Þingvellir National Park and much more. You can book that tour here.
