Here at OnTheQT we love nothing more than a fun road trip… and so we could barely contain our excitement as our trip along the Wild Atlantic Way approached! Although it’s great fun to hop on a plane and explore exotic places half way across the world… more often than not we forget to explore what’s right in front of us! Over five days we travelled the first section of the 2,500km route along the Western seaboard! It was simply spectacular!
On day two of our road trip we travelled through West Cork heading further west until we arrived in Glengarriff . A small cosy town with a distinct personality it’s a lovely spot for a pit-stop! We headed down to the pier where we hopped aboard the Harbour Queen Ferry headed to the beautiful Garnish Island.
We were in for a great surprise.. most certainly not just a mode of transport we were delighted when the crew pointed out the magnificent wildlife that surrounded us.. including a family of seals! We also saw birds nesting and learnt about the history of the local area! It was fabulous, and extremely relaxing to spend some time on the water on such a sunny day!
We arrived to Garnish island in just over 20 minutes! Steeped in history, paired with a collection of beautiful carefully manicured colourful gardens- it s the perfect day trip destination for young and old!
With frequent ferry crossings (every 30 minutes) , reasonably priced fares, friendly crew members & beautiful boats – the harbour queen ferry is most definitely the best way to reach the idyllic Garnish Island!
Hope your enjoy your boat trip as much as we did! x
