Here at #OnTheQT we LOVE to hit the road on a Friday afternoon and head off on a roadtrip! This past weekend we decided to head west and spent a few days in beautiful Dingle! The Dingle Peninsula is the northernmost point of the major peninsulas in Kerry and stretches across a breath taking rugged landscape out to Dunmore head, the most Westerly point in all of Europe! There are SO many activities, adventures, and day trips to go on from Dingle you could spend weeks on end there, so we’re already excited to return, but we squeezed in as many fun things as we could during our action packed weekend down there!
Dingle Adventure Race: As you know here at #OnTheQT we LOVE adventures and so decided to take part in the annual Dingle Adventure Race. With 3 different categories , and all for a bit of fun, there is something to suit all abilities! The race includes running, kayaking, cycling and depending on which category you enter.. a mountain trail run! The cycle was my favourite part as it brought me around Slea head. I passed ancient sites steeped in history, tiny villages, and simply amazing scenery all whilst cycling on the edge of a rugged mountain side alongside the Atlantic ocean. It was absolutely stunning! I highly recommend doing this cycle outside of the race… you will LOVE it! Although I was exhausted as I ran over the finish line, there was a great atmosphere in Dingle among all the other brave adventurers and so I was delighted I had participated!
Murphys Ice cream: If you like ice – cream… you will most certainly adore Murphys ice cream parlour on the main street in Dingle! It is an artisanal handmade ice cream made using only the finest of locally sourced ingredients. They have a collection uniquely delicious flavours making the selection a very hard choice! I highly recommend the brown bread flavour.. as weird as it sounds!
Conor Pass: At 456 metres, the conor pass is one of the highest mountain passes in Ireland! The twisty narrow road most certainly makes for a thrilling roadtrip, and is definitely worth a trip to! There are some wonderful views so be sure to bring your camera!
Inch Beach: If you’re driving back towards Killarney/Cork from Dingle… you must take a pit stop at Inch beach! You can actually drive onto this 3 mile long stretch of strand which is great fun! Its no wonder it has been chosen multiple times for films!
Other fun things to do around Dingle include: Paddle Boarding, sailing, visiting fungi the friendly dolphin, climbing Mount Brandon, listening to live trad music and admiring the fear marbh! Enjoy your trip to this wonderful place! x
