On The QT

Fota Wildlife Park

Fota Wildlife Park is an amazing zoo that will allow you to have one of the most memorable family days out around. OnTheQT was lucky enough to spend a few days in the amazing park, exploring and having fun. We created a little QT video showcasing the amazing Fota Wildlife Park in Cork. We can honestly say that we never knew how much fun Fota was until we spent a few days experiencing it!  It is set on 70 acres around the scenic Fota Island, while also being in the heart of Cork Harbour and yet only 15 minutes from Cork City (Little QT tip: Get the Cork to Cobh train and one of the stops along the way is right outside the park).

The park is not like an ordinary zoo. At Fota you can come face to face with free roaming animals and birds from all parts of the world. You can watch the amazement on your child’s face as a kangaroo hops in front of them, as they feed the spectacular birds or as a ring tailed lemur jumps down from a tree….each visit you can create memories with your little QT’s. Throughout our trips to Fota, our favourite part was watching all the little kid’s expressions as they got up close with the animals. Whether it was feeding the birds or watching the giraffes cross the path right in front of them for feeding time.

Now, when we thought of Fota Wildlife Park first day, we thought THE ZOO! But it offers so much more. They have unbelievable big marquees for all your events in the centre of the wildlife park. How amazing would it be to organise a day out for work colleagues or a work BBQ in THE ZOO! They offer lots of packages and it would definitely be a QT day out/QT BBQ and one to be talked about all year. Celebrating together in the middle of the zoo! Unbelievable!

Wildlife talks take place everyday in the park filling you in on all the stories, names and information on all the animals throughout the park. We really thought this was a great idea, especially for young kids(our little QTs) who just want to know everything about there favourite animal – their names, what they eat, where they sleep etc! Each day there are lots of  kids activities throughout the park! From art classes, feeding times, cheetah runs, activities for the kids, face painting and much more. Create even more memories with your Little QT and stop off and have a picnic in the park as ye watch all the animals surrounding your picnic together (Little QT tip: Have your picnic next to your child’s favourite animal and make their day!).

Honestly, you could spend your day following all the great activities throughout the park! Our favourite was the Penguin feedings, face painting, the cheetah run and the meerkat feeding(I know we named a few favourites there but to be honest its hard to say what our favourite is because we just loved it all!!). A great end to the day is to watch the Giraffees crossing the path as they go in for feeding and for the night. This is truly a great way to end the day. The kids faces as they watch the giraffes cross right in front of them is something you have to visit to witness.

Go Wild and visit Fota Wildlife Park – QT approved for FUN!
