The Midleton walking Club visited Blarney recently on one of our Saturday walks. We met in Midleton at 2 pm and arrived in Blarney at 2.40 to start our walk. The walk was led by Pat Lynch our guest blogger. Seventeen walkers in total undertook the walk. We circled the village via the square and headed our the path towards Waterloo. This a great walking trail with great woods on both sides and running along the Shournagh River for a couple of miles.
Plenty of leaves on the ground which made the scenery completely different to the same walk we did during the summer. After 40 minutes or so we reached Waterloo and we stopped for a short break to view the tower and church dating back to the 18th century. Well worth reading the story board located there telling the history of the area.
On we went via the tunnel that goes under the main Cork- Mallow Road and veered right on to the path that runs adjacent to the main road that leads to Station Road where we turned right which led us back to the village of Blarney. In all the walk took a little over one and a half hours and we covered about 7 klms. At a nice steady pace. Headed back to the famous Woollen Mills in Blarney for the well deserved cuppa.
