Our Top 5 Things to Do in Iceland

In this blog post, I am sharing My Top 5 Things to Do in Iceland. A question I get asked all the time. As I was only there for a long weekend, I can only go by my experience so I am sharing my Top 5 Things to do in Iceland from my long weekend. There are so many more places and adventures to explore over there, I know I will have to go back again to experience even more. If you have been to Iceland and want to add your adventure to the list, just comment below. Share with everyone your experience too.

  • Go on a hunt for the Northern Lights.

It is a magical experience and one not to be missed. We did a warm bath and cool lights tour with Reykjavík Excursions. During this trip, you drive via the UNESCO site Þingvellir National Park. On arrival to the Laugarvatn Fontana, you get to enjoy a local style dinner buffet  You then get to Laugarvatn Fontana to bath in the geothermal bath on a cosy evening. Sometimes, you can actually see the northern lights from the baths but it was cloudy on the day so we went on an Northern Lights hunt afterwards. We were very lucky to see the lights during our hunt and it is a moment we will cherish forever.

  • Relax in the Blue Lagoon.

The Blue Logoon is one of the 25 wonders in the world and is a must while visiting Iceland. You also must pre-book your tickets for the blue lagoon and we would recommend doing this a few weeks before your trip to make sure you get the time you want. Once you are in the lagoon, you can stay in as long as you like.

  • Explore the city of Reykjavík.

Explore the colourful city of Reykjavík and be sure to visit Hallgrímskirkja church which is Reykjavík’s main landmark and its tower can be seen from almost everywhere in the city. You can climb to the top tower to see views of the whole city from above. Entry to the tower for adults is ISK 900 and entry to the tower for children 7-14 years old is ISK 100.

It honestly was the highlight of our trip. It was everything you think of when you think of Iceland. The Pearl Tour is an Iceland adventure where you will experience some of Iceland’s most famous and exciting natural phenomena by exploring the Golden Circle, topped off with an unforgettable snowmobile tour on Langjökull glacier. On the Golden Circle, you get to explore is Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the active Geysir Hot Spring area with its boiling mud pits and spouting hot springs and Gullfoss Waterfall(one of Iceland’s most powerful waterfalls).

  • The leads us onto the next tip – Try something outside of your comfort zone.

It’s like an adventure capital of the world. The highlight of the trip for us was going on a snow mobile on Langjökull Glacier and dashing across snowfields on snowmobiles while gazing at the mountain peaks. This snow mobile trip is included in the Pearl Tour with Mountaineers of Iceland.

On this trip, we teamed up with lots of different Iceland tourism providers who allowed us to experience their location or activity.
