There’s no place like home and I feel very lucky to call Ireland home. Ireland is full of exquisite landscapes, charming scenery and friendly people but one of my favourite things to do is hop in a car, go away from the main motorways and explore off the beaten track. In this post, I am delighted to team up with Chill Insurance to share with you some of my favourite gems to explore in Ireland:
The Copper Coast
Waterford is always on the top of my list for adventures! The Copper Coast just simply takes my breath away every time. It is one of the most magnificent coastal regions in Ireland. It is located west of Tramore and runs right along the coast from Kilfarassy Beach, near Fenor in the east to Ballyvoile Beach near Stradbally to the west.
Mahon Falls & Comeragh Mountain Drive
I only stumbled upon this drive over the summer and I would highly recommend it. The Comeragh trail takes you out on the N25 from Dungarvan towards Lemybrien, then turn left at the sign for the Comeragh Drive and Mahon Falls. A beautiful panoramic drive through the Comeragh mountains. The Comeragh Mountains are exceptional and stretch from the coast near Dungarvan as far as Clonmel. Mahon Falls is an 80m waterfall you will come across on route and you can take a relaxed walk out to see the falls up close. Nothing is better than driving up an old country road, the sun glistening on the mountains and sheep roaming freely across the mountain range.
Giant’s Causeway Coastal Route.
As many of you know, I have spent some time exploring Northern Ireland and the Giant’s Causeway Coastal route will always be one of my favourite drives. Stretching from Belfast to Derry, it captures some of the most incredible spots in Ireland. A panoramic view all around, from the picture perfect blue coastal scenery to the remarkable rugged landscape.
Priest’s Leap
This is a hidden gem if you are looking to really go off the beaten track to explore. The Priest’s Leap Mountain Pass Drive is on the boarder of Cork and Kerry. This drive will bring you over Ireland’s highest mountain pass at 1,500 feet. It is definitely one for the bucket list.
Dublin To Portlaoise Through The Wicklow Mountains
If you are visiting Dublin, plan some time to get out of the hustle and bustle. Go on a road trip through the Wicklow Mountains towards Portlaoise. Make your way through the Sally Gap Mountain Pass, while taking in the spectacular scenery. Drive up through the Wicklow Mountains National Park and at Laragh village take the signpost to Glendalough valley to explore one of Ireland’s impressive monastic settlements from the sixth century.
