One of my favourite beaches has got to be Inchydoney. Nestled away a few kilometres outside the beautiful town of Clonakilty in West Cork, stretching out into the wild Atlantic sea is the open spacious and sandy strand… what a perfect escape from reality! Accessible by car, and suitable for dogs, a day trip down to the gorgeous beach is a must next time you’re looking for something to do! With crystal clear waters, fascinating sand dunes, and glistening rock pools, it is no surprise the beach has been awarded the coveted Blue Flag status.
The beach is life guarded during the bathing season, there is excellent surfing conditions for beginners (with a surf school on the beach, providing board and wetsuit hire as well as lessons), walking your dog, kitesurfing, wind surfing, yoga classes, bootcamp, sand drawing, sand castle making, or simply hiding away in the sand dunes with a good book absorbing the rays of sunshine… whatever it is you like to do, I have no doubt you will enjoy doing so at Inchydoney beach!
The nearby town of Clonakilty is very close by, with plenty of supermarkets for picnic supplies and an abundance of delicious lunch spots! If you REALLY feel like treating yourself, why not pop into the beautiful Inchydoney Lodge and spa hotel for a spot of afternoon tea.. or even a spa treatment!
Whatever it is you decide to do on the beach, I hope you enjoy the magical feeling of sand between your toes and breathing in the fresh West Cork sea air!
