As you all know, I fell in love with Antrim last year. Around every corner lies a new hidden gem. What I love about Antrim is you can’t help but come across new gems. Each one is as beautiful as the next. During a recent road trip, I stumbled upon Whiterocks Beach. Nothing beats a fresh walk on the beach so we did just that on Whiterocks Beach. We met a few people who had the same idea as us and we were told it is very much a local gem. We were delighted to have stumbled upon it.
The beach is situated just off the Causeway Coastal Route. The locals told us a little history about the beach. The beach has a picturesque views with the limestone cliffs of the White Rocks stretching from Curran Strand to Dunce Castle. These soft, sedimentary rocks have been carved through centuries into a labyrinth of caves and arches.
Wildlife along the coastline is spectacular. The Shelagh’s Head, the Wishing Arch, Elephant Rock and the Lion’s Paw are headlands of distinguishable forms which rise out of the ocean. Under the road lie cavernous caves which are only accessible from the sea. They are home to seabirds and a hunting ground for hawks.
