We all have a little wanderlust trapped up inside us… so don’t forget to leave it out now and again! There’s a big world out there, and its very important to go explore as much of this planet it as possible! Recently the #OnTheQTcrew took a trip to the other side of the world to explore Australia. We had an AMAZING time, and loved sharing our adventure with you! Now that we’ve lived through the adventure, we’ve chosen 5 top tips to help you when you head off to explore down under!
1. Prepare to be hot: Australia is well known for its gorgeous summers, so don’t underestimate just how hot it really gets! Temperatures sit above 30’C for weeks on end each summer, often soaring up to the mid-40s! At that point even the breeze feels like it is melting you! So be sure to carry gallons of water, and a bottle of sun cream everywhere you go!
2. Watch out for Jellyfish! You may think you have enough to be worrying about with an abundance of sharks, and giant spiders around the place… Australia also has its fair share of jellyfish that sure know how to sting along its shores during the summer months! In some regions like Cairns there are special stinger nets in the water which allow people to swim in an enclosed jelly fish free space! You can also wear a stinger suit to protect yourself…but be sure to listen out to lifeguard announcements as they will let you know when you’re in danger!
3. Drink lots of coffee: If you think you don’t like coffee… well then you haven’t tried it in Australia yet! Arguably home to the best coffee in the world, Australia are proud to have invented the deliciously tasty flat white! With a culture almost built around drinking cappuccinos, lattes and mochas… its a must to join in on the ultimate coffee stop experience! (Warning: You may become a coffee snob after Australian coffee consumption!)
4. Swim the great barrier reef: Located off the coast of QLD in north eastern Australia, the Great Barrier Reef is the largest living thing on earth! It is even visible from outer space! It is a once in a life time opportunity to hop on a boat early in the morning, head out to the middle of the ocean and jump aboard to explore what lies beneath the water! The 2,300km long ecosystem comprises of thousands of reefs and hundreds of islands made of over 600 types of hard and soft coral! Home to countless species of beautifully coloured fish, starfish, turtles, dolphins, and even sharks… this trip will be sure to take your breath away!
5. Take a hike: Some of Australia’s prettiest terrain can only be appreciated on foot. With plenty marked hikes around the country, it is a must to become immersed in the stunning scenery. Whatever you fancy from the desert, to forests, to serence coastline walks.. you’ll be sure to find something you enjoy! You might even make a kangaroo friend along the way! My favourite hike is the stunning Blue Mountains in NSW – the perfect weekend camping trip away from Sydney!
