Stage One – Wild Atlantic Way Road trip! :)

We were very excited as the time grew closer to the start of our Wild Atlantic Way road trip… even more so when Europcar.ie  decided to sponsor us with a car for our adventure! We could barely contain our excitement when we got to Cork Airport on the Monday morning and there was a sparkling new white Hyundai Tucson jeep waiting for us!

The staff at Cork airport car rental collection were extremely helpful, and the car was in pristine condition! We packed in our cameras, filming equipment, wetsuits, hiking boots, our picnic.. and hit the road!

Not only is there an abundance of activities, restaurants and viewing points along the Wild Atlantic Way… it is an absolutely stunning drive.. especially in such a nice car!

I particularly enjoyed driving over the Caha pass and tunnels which marked the Cork /Kerry border! The road twisted, turned and disappeared in front of our eyes…  the view on either side of the road was simply stunning!

Driving on Inch strand was also pretty cool.. its not often in Ireland you can drive along the beach! It was amazing to look out the window and watch the waves crash on the sand right next to the car!

I also loved driving over Slea Head which is circular route that both starts and ends in Dingle, Co. Kerry! The drive is on a cliff-edge for the most part and has speactacular views out into the Atlantic Ocean! You can spot An Fear Marbh, the Blasket Islands, the Skellig Rock and much more on a clear day! It is most certainly a drive worth adding to your bucket list!

The conor pass is another great drive which leads out of Dingle from the other side.. this extremely narrow windy road leads you up one side of the mountains and down the other! We met plenty of sheep on the way!

If you’re coming to Ireland and looking to rent a car to drive the Wild Atlantic Way… I highly recommend Europcar.ie! If you have any questions or queries, simply e-mail me at: Lauren@OnTheQT.ie x
