The next stop on our East Coast road trip was the beautiful Magnetic Island! Located just 8km off the mainland town of Townsville in QLD, accessible by frequent ferry service, the island is a haven for wildlife, beautiful beaches and hiking trails!
We were lucky enough to stay at a Koala sanctuary… which was amazing! The Bungalow Bay Koala Village is the only resort in Australia that can boast its own wildlife park on site! Set amidst the rugged landscape of Magnetic Island, this family-run backpacker resort has free-roaming wildlife throughout the grounds! It was fascinating! During our stay we fed exotic birds, held a snake and other reptiles, made friends with cute koala bears, we even had a nocturnal squirrel glider turn up on our doorstep!
Throughout the rest of the island there’s an abundance of activities to do! With 54% of the island made up of national park you are in for quite the breath taking Aussie getaway! Magnetic Island is home to an estimated 800 Koalas, Wallabies and some beautiful scenic walks , you’ll be spoiled for choice deciding where to go!
If you’re looking for a fun way to travel – the island is well known for its Barbie mobiles available to rent all over the island!
Have fun being an islander! x
