Halong Bay, Vietnam

Blogger: Lauren Lucy Crowley

Our overnight trip to Halong Bay was absolutely incredible! We were picked up at our hotel bright and early, and travelled by bus to the port for about 4 hours where we hopped on small transfer boats to our cruiser. Lunch was served on arrival which we enjoyed as we mingled with the other guests from around the world, and shared travel stories.

Our cabins were spacious, clean and beautifully furnished, it was so cool to have such a great bedroom view looking out to sea! As we drew closer to Halong Bay itself we sat out on the deck in awe of the blissful surroundings. The bay is one of the natural wonders of the world, known for its emerald waters and thousands of towering limestone islands topped by rainforests. It was unlike anything I have ever seen before!

As the sky turned pink and the sun set around us I was mesmerized by its beauty. It was such a magical experience! The boat dropped anchor and we all jumped overboard into the twinkling ocean… such a beautiful place for an evening swim! After a delicious dinner the cabin crew handed out some local wine and blankets, we sat on the deck admiring the stars for what seemed like an eternity!

The following day was jam packed! We woke at 5.30am to watch the sun rise, this was followed by kayaking and swimming around the bay area, and we even had a cooking class on board before returning to land! It was a fantastic experience! If you plan to visit Halong Bay (which I think you should!), definitely recommend going for the night so that you get to watch the sun set and explore by Kayak!
