On The QT

Glendalough!

Blogger: Lauren Lucy Crowley

Nothing beats that healthy feeling of getting up early, wrapping up in warm clothes and going on a nice long walk in the fresh countryside Irish air! That is exactly what we did recently here at OntheQT!

Having spent the weekend in bustling Dublin city (which we also love to do!), we decided a trip to the countryside would be nice! Off we went to the airport to pick up a shiny new rental car, and set off on a roadtrip We weren’t quite sure how long it would take to get to Wicklow, or how exactly to get there for that matter… but that was all part of the excitement! Having spotted a few signposts along the way, we were assured we were headed in the right direction!

After approx. one hour, we arrived , as I stepped out of the car I landed in a large pile of orange and auburn leaves… I instantly knew it was going to be a beautiful morning! Glendalough is a glacial valley, renowned for an early medieval monastic settlement founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century – from this the “Monastic city” developed which of course included the world famous Round Tower. As I wandered around… I was fascinated both at this rich Irish history right in front of me… and the fact that I had never visited this idyllic place before!

We walked around the scenic lakes and valleys along the designated paths for hours! There was so much to admire I was in awe of the stunning landscapes! I couldn’t stop taking photographs so that I could attempt to capture the sheer beauty of the place! If you are a visitor to Ireland, I highly recommend a trip here… even more importantly if you are Irish and have never been to Glendalough, you must go so as soon as possible!

Enjoy your trip there, don’t forget to let us know how you got on… we LOVE to hear from our followers! Happy hiking! x
