Day Five: OnTheQT Wild Atlantic Way Roadtrip!

Here at OnTheQT we love nothing more than a fun road trip… and so we could barely contain our excitement as our trip along the Wild Atlantic Way approached!  Although it’s great fun to hop on a plane and explore exotic places half way across the world… more often than not we forget to explore what’s right in front of us! Over five days we travelled the first section of the 2,500km route along the Western seaboard! It was simply spectacular! We’ve put together our action packed itinerary for each day so you can follow in our footsteps!

Dingle Dolphin: We woke up bright and early on the final day of our Wild Atlantic Way trip, got dressed into our wetsuits, headed for the lovely town of Dingle, and out we went on a rib with the gang at Dingle Dolphin to see if we could find Fungie the friendly dolphin! Some may be a little sceptical about this dolphin who lives in Dingle Bay… however, I can assure you he really does! Although it took a few minutes for us to find him.. as soon as we did he loved the hum of the boat engine! He swam alongside us.. raced against us.. even showed off doing flips and turns for us! It was amazing! We even got to jump in and go swimming with him! #magicalmoment (www.dingledolphin.com)

Longs Horseriding & Trekking Centre: Our next activity for the day was horse trekking along Ventry beach! We could barely contain our excitement when we pulled up to the stables and got ready to go! Such an idyllic location, a gaeltacht area surrounded by mountains and alongside the beach… it was beautiful! The horses at the stables were all very well cared for by the wonderful team of girls working there… they helped us onto the horses and gave us a few instructions before we followed them down onto the sand! The horses were so well behaved as they took us along the beach with their hoofs splashing into the water! It was most certainly a trip to remember! (www.longsriding.com)

The Skipper Restaurant: With our appetities growing it was time for some lunch.. we couldn’t have chosen a better place than the delicious Skipper Restaurant in Ventry. Just up from Ventry beach, this restaurant specialises in local seafood.. …with a French twist! We were served tasty mussels, and succulent crab claws paired with the perfect white wine! With a stunning view and reasonable prices for top notch dishes…this hidden gem  it is most certainly worth a trip! (www.skipperventry.com).

Jamie Knox Watersports: Ready for road again, we drove over the stunning Conor Pass and down into Castlegregory! We took a trip to Jamie Knox watersports where we were spoilt for choice with different activities to choose from! Windsurfing, wake boarding, kite surfing, SUP’ing, surfing… whatever you’re willing to try Jamie will be more than happy to facilitate you! We decided to go kayaking, before testing on the water trampoline and slide! It was great fun! With a stunning backdrop of Mount Brandon, and something for everyone to try out.. you’ll be sure to have a super time here!  (www.jamieknox.com)
