Today was another early start to catch a flight to our next destination. We got the train from Chicago to the airport and we flew from Chicago to Phoenix to Sacramento. The next stage of our 6 week adventure.
We arrived in Sacramento in the afternoon so we decided to make the most of the day and we headed into Old Sacramento to explore. It was like entering a wild wild west movie. Almost like going back in time with the place full of history and charm. Lots of exciting gift shops and gems lie within the wooden structures of the town. A charming place to visit.
In the town lies an old train and railway museum which is well worth a visit. It covers the history of the building of the railroads in the USA. It was some achievement. Very interesting. There is an actual steam engine which runs in the summer months for a couple of miles on a existing track and it is a must if you are in town.
As night fell, hunger struck so we went to eat in a local restaurant in Old Sacramento called Rio City Café. You know a spot is good when you see the locals going to the place. The place was very popular for its BBQ ribs, pork, steaks and burgers. We enjoyed the BBQ ribs and a burger and the flavors were divine.
We headed back to the hotel before our next big off the beaten track adventure to Oregon House, California tomorrow.
Over and out for now from Sacramento,
Steph
