If you’re looking for a fun and unique day out with the kids, I highly recommend a trip to the West Cork Model Railway Village in Clonakilty!
Located just outside Clonakilty town on the Inchydoney road, stepping into this magical model village is like stepping back in time! The models and figures are all individually handmade and paint a picture of what life was like in West Cork in the 1940’s! Each model is made at a scale of 1:24 real life size, and you could spend hours picking out different areas and buildings that are still standing in West Cork today!
The attention to detail, and artwork on these life-like figures is simply astounding! I almost felt like a giant walking around a real life village.. rather than the other way around!
A model of the old West Cork railway line also encircles the perimeter of the village and travels around as visitors to the centre watch in amazement! Even better, there is a real train ride that visitors can go on which takes you through the town or out the Inchydoney road! The perfect way to bring your experience at the model railway village to life!
The centre also has a beautiful vintage -style café and gift shop which are well worth a visit whilst at the centre!
