Feeding time at the zoo…well it is all day for these pandas actually. These fabulous creatures, sacred to the Chinese, spend up to 16 hours a day eating between 40 and 50KG of bamboo! The Giant Pandas, native to south central China, are found only in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. With fewer than 1000 pandas globally they are listed on the World Conservation Union’s Red List of Threatened Species.

The Panda Breeding Research Center in Chengdu has been created to imitate these rare animals’ natural habitat in order to increase breeding. A visit is not complete without checking out the newborn cubs in the nursery. Best to visit early in the morning when feeding commences to witness these beautiful animals at their most active. Definitely a QT spot for the whole family!
