As you all know, we recently went on a trip to Iceland and today we are delighted to launch episode 1 of the series. You can watch the full episode here. In Episode 1, we flew with Wow Air direct from Cork Airport to Reykjavík. The Cork flights(they don’t run daily but I think three or four times a week) run until October 27th and are stopping for the winter season. There are flights daily to Reykjavík from Dublin airport. Prices can range from €39.99 upwards. For transport from the airport, we booked your tickets online with Reykjavík Excursions into Reykjavik and be sure to get the plus tickets as it brings you to the nearest bus stop to your hotel.
We stayed in the centre of Reykjavík in the Sandhotel. The Sandhotel is a new boutique hotel in the heart of Reykjavík, on the high-street, Laugavegur. It is extremely central and allows you to walk down the street and be in the heart of Reykjavík and enjoy the vibrant cultural life of Reykjavík. Anything in the city itself is within walking distance of this hotel – restaurants, museums, shops etc. There is also an amazing bakery attached to this hotel which we would highly recommend.
In this episode, we made the most of our first night in Iceland and we also did a warm bath and cool lights tour with Reykjavík Excursions. During this trip, you drive via the UNESCO site Þingvellir National Park. On arrival to the Laugarvatn Fontana, you get to enjoy a local style dinner buffet You then get to Laugarvatn Fontana to bath in the geothermal bath on a cosy evening. Sometimes, you can actually see the northern lights from the baths but it was cloudy on the day so we went on an Northern Lights hunt afterwards. We were very lucky to see the lights during our hunt. The tour starts at 6pm until 12:30pm.
