OnTheQT stumbled upon a unique gem just 8km outside the busy town of Killarney. We came across Dunloe View Hostel but soon realised it was more then your typical hostel, it was a hostel with a difference. What made Dunloe View Hostel so unique was the location. It is situated in a farmland setting with stunning views of the McGillyCuddy Reeks. The views all around and the unique feature of a farm setting made it the ideal location. (QT Tip: This is a place the kids will adore and want to come back to time and time again). Sometimes the location is everything but what we have learned from traveling the country is that it is the people you remember and the hostel is family owned by the Moriarty family. A warm, welcoming family who have a passion and a real love for attention to detail and creating an experience while staying with them. This family will make your stay a memorable one…trust us.
The main thing that stands out for us is the farm setting. As you step out the door from the kitchen, you enter a wonderland of animals. Onsite are chickens, goats, rabbits, a cat and a vegetable garden. Imagine bringing your kids to stay at this hostel and in the morning letting them go outside to collect their egg from the chickens and see the goat being milked – this is a truly unique experience and one that will hold memories with your children forever. It is almost like staying the night at an open farm and waking up to a farmyard of animals on your doorstep.
We had to include the picture below. You would easily know which person feeds him and takes care of him – he thinks the world of Mr. Moriarty.
Not all hostel’s provide breakfast but Dunloe View Hostel provides a unique continental breakfast with free-range eggs and fresh produce (QT TIP: The free-range eggs and fresh produce are also available for purchase by guests). The main thing that stands out is the fact that it is almost like a home away from home. An amazing family room and spacious kitchen allows you to cook, relax and enjoy yourself at your own pace. This rural hostel is located close to the Gap Of Dunloe and Carraurntohill. (QT TIP: If you are into walking or hiking, the is the perfect place for you to stay after your long day on your feet. You can cook, relax and make yourself at home. Home away from home.
As we strolled around the hostel, we couldn’t help but notice the travel vibe throughout. Items from all over the word. John has been traveling around the world and you can see his travel and experiences throughout the house.
As you all know we love our quotes here at OnTheQT and just adored all the positive sayings that can be found in corners of the house. The attention to detail with sayings, travel gems and information will catch your attention.
The rooms are completed to perfection. Comfort, style and each room has it’s own en-suite. Perfect rooms for couples, groups of friends and amazing family rooms. Each room has it’s own unqiue gems, sayings and touches. Each room is as good as the next.
As you know, this is a hostel that is family friendly and a home away from home. Sometimes in our everyday lives we forgot to take some time out of our schedule for some family time. Whether that is watching a DVD, doing a puzzle together or playing a board game. We were not joking when we said attention to detail was in Dunloe View Hostel as they provide you with the DVD collection, puzzles and board games so you can enjoy your time together.
The rural country atmosphere, amazing views, homely feel and warm welcome, along with the additional friendly farmyard animals will make this stay a memorable one. A home away from home with beautiful gardens, scenery and fun.
