Our Weekend In West Yorkshire

As many of you know from our social media accounts last weekend, we spent the long weekend exploring the beautiful area of West Yorkshire. We stayed in Halifax which is Calderdale’s largest town. Surrounding us for the weekend was the beautiful Victorian architecture around every corner. A town which blends the old style with the new modern style perfectly.

We arrived on Friday and checked into the White Swan hotel in the centre of Halifax. A warm, welcoming homely hotel with everything you could possibly need. The rooms were very comfortable with a homely touch and the English breakfast each morning was beautiful. The staff were so friendly and the location was within walking distance of everything in the town. (You can book this hotel here).

We set off to get our bearings before a late lunch in the friendly TGI Fridays. What can we say…it was Friday of a long weekend so celebrations were in order!! On Saturday, we went to celebrate the wedding of two fabulous people and danced the night away!!

On Sunday, we woke and went for brunch in La Luna. A modern café with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The menu had a great selection to suit all tastes. I went for a mushroom carbonara (You all know how much I love my Italian food) and it was delicious!!

We then spent some time exploring and finding out all the history of the bell ringing at Halifax Minster. The Minster has been located in the heart of the community for over 900 years.  The volunteers are extremely friendly and helpful. There are many music events which take place in the Minster so be sure to have a look to see if you will be able to experience any of them while your there. It was lovely to hear the bells ringing. It takes 10 people to ring the bells and they ring the bells constantly for 3 hours straight without playing the same pattern twice. A skilled past time.

While we were there, the Victorian Halifax Borough Market was under construction but when it’s opened up again it will be full of markets, independent shops and cafes. It was then time to fly home after a fabulous weekend of fun!! Every weekend should be a long weekend!!!

Happy Travels,

Steph
