There is something special about Baltimore, a tiny village nestled deep into West Cork along the Wild Atlantic Way, approx. 13 km from Skibbereen. Whenever I pull into the coastal village… I instantly feel as though I’m on my holidays!
It was no different when we recently pulled in there on our Wild Atlantic Way trip! We drove down onto the pier and couldn’t wait to get out onto the water! We met with Micheal from Baltimore Sea Safari who gave us life jackets, and a quick safety talk before taking us out on the rib to see what wildlife we could find!
As we exited the marina we sped up a little, and set out towards some of the beautiful surrounding islands! Micheal was very informative, and full of knowledge about the fascinating history and wildlife of the area! He pointed out a myriad of sea birds and seal colonies, as well as local land marks around the West Cork coast line!
Micheal knew the surrounding waters so well… he knew exactly where to go in search of dolphins! We could barely contain our excitement when we saw them swimming next to us! Not just one….multiple dolphins swam alongside the boat right in front of our eyes! We couldn’t believe it… such a magical moment!
There are a number of different trips available from 20 minutes up to 2 hours, depending what you wish to do! You can expect to see whales, dolphins & basking sharks depending on the season, along with seals and interesting birds! It is a truly unique adventure with an excellent tour guide… you most certainly wont be disappointed!
