Over the weekend, we decided to do a staycation in Ireland. We booked a last minute break to Killarney. I love Killarney with all the activities it offers – kayaking, swimming, mountain climbing, hiking, cycling and walking to name a few. On Sunday, we took the Muckross Lake loop. We parked at Muckross House and started the walk by the lake. There are signposts for the lake walk near Muckross House. This walk takes about 2 hours to complete and is approximately 10km in length. It brings you around the picturesque Muckross lake and you can admire the views all along the way!
Half way around, we came across the Old Weir Bridge with stunning views from every angle. Everywhere you look on this walk is just beautiful. My phone even ran out of memory so you can imagine how many pictures I was taking!!
We continued on and took a pitstop at the 200 year old Denis Cottage for a cuppa and cake on a picnic bench in front of the lake. It was one of those moments where you look around and think to yourself, I am so lucky to live in such a beautiful country.
Before you arrive back to Muckross you have the option of visiting Torc Waterfall which adds on an additional 4km to your walk. If your feet aren’t too tired you could add it to the walk at the end. We did this part of the route the day before and it was spectacular. After a visit to Torc, you can cross the main road and re-enter the Killarney National Park and back to your car at Muckross House. We ended the walk with a 99 ice-cream in Muckross House Café!!
