Whilst Kaikoura is best known for its whales and dolphins, it’s the fur seals which allow the most up close and personal interactions. Ohau Point, located between Kaikoura and South Bay is home to a collection of fur seals. These adorable creatures are at your every turn, playing, swimming or simply enjoying the sun’s rays.
If you need an even greater overload of cuteness then head north of Kaikoura to Ohau Stream and Waterfall. Fur seal pups born in November and December head upstream to avoid the strong waves and from April to October can be seen building their coordination and muscles. The stream is often home to nearly 200 highly energetic pups. They are adorable! A definite OnTheQT spot!
