I spent some time recently in Lanzarote and the hiking trail from Puerto del Carmen old town to Puerto Calero is a wonderful way to spend a day. The walk starts in Puerto del Carmen and takes about 50 minutes. There are several places to rest on the walk and to enjoy the scenery. The walk is a lovely cliff walk with great scenery along the way.
Puerto Calero is a beautiful town. Stay down by the water as there are lots of nice restaurants to choose from when you arrive and they all have a sea view. Shopping is a must for the ladies with some of the big names here.
When you arrive, you can either walk back, get a taxi back or you can get a boat back. We opted for the boat trip back as it gave us a chance to see Lanzarote from the water. The ferry fee back to Puerto del Carmen is 6 euros on way or 10 euros return. It takes about 30 minutes and it is very relaxing. Other options are to walk back or jump in a taxi. It is not expensive.
What you will need
You will need good comfortable walking shoes. Bring drinking water with you and a jumper or light coat for the boat trip back.
