I recently went on a walking holiday to Croatia. We had a local host Pat Herbert who took us on many local walks and hikes each day. Awoke to another glorious morning. Watched the sun rise over the harbour from the distance and watched a liner enter the bay> towards Split. Had a relaxing breakfast on the veranda. Our coach was not picking us up until 9.30 today so it was a nice relaxing morning. This was our last day of walking and we wanted to make the most of it. Lunch and water packed in to our bags and off we went. Today we staying on our Island of Trojier.
It was a short coach trip to the quaint village of Saltine were we walked from and returned to later that day. Helen led out walk initially until we joined Pat Herbert ( the group organiser) who led us for the rest of the day. As we left the village it was nice to see some village folks looking out there doors at us and bidding us good day in there local language. It was a bit of a climb initially until we reached the top and it flattened out.
Our first rest was at a helicopter pad where we met Pat and we enjoyed the views from the top of the hill. We continued our walk to the old monastery of Gospe od Prizidnice. Lots of interesting terrains on the way with fig trees and olive groves. There must have been a lot of history here where monks lived many years ago.
It was on the water set in to the cliffs with amazing views. My pictures do not do it justice. We stopped here for lunch and enjoyed the sea views.
On we go again to go out towards the corner of the island where we enjoy beautiful views of Split from a distance. We could see the Cruise Liners berthed here for the day as there many passengers visited Split.
We scrambled down the side of a hill which led us to the waters edge and we walked for several km along paths and roads to Saline. Some beautiful beaches along the way which are known by the locals. A must to go back to for a relaxing day at the beach. The water looked very tempting but no time for a swim today.
Temperatures were mid 20 c today – perfect conditions for walking and so important to wear sun block. In total we completed 13 km. A beautiful walk I must say. Some refreshments in Saltine and we head back by coach to our apartments to get ready for dinner.
