Visiting Cockatoo Island rekindles your sense of adventure! Just a short ferry ride from the city (or perhaps a kayak if you’re up for more of an adventure) arriving at Cockatoo island is sure to be a great day out!
If you’re passionate about maritime or convict history the island unfolds like a story book of the past. You can even get an audio tour so that get in depth information about the island steeped in history!
There are a few different options for lunch, and a beautiful cocktail bar so you will be spoilt for choice if you haven’t packed a picnic! With tennis courts, life-size chess and plenty open space for playing soccer it is the perfect escape from the city for you and your family! If you’re looking for an entire weekend away why not check out their beautiful glamping facilities which look over the ocean!
We were lucky enough to visit the island during the 20th Biennale of Sydney which is Australia’s largest contemporary visual arts event, showcasing innovative and thought-provoking works from around the world! Running until the 5th of June the large spaces inside and around the former convict settlement and shipyard facilitate a unique exploration of the virtual and the physical, through breathtaking installations, multimedia works and live performances! So if it fits your schedule highly recommend a trip there before the exhibition is over!
Have a super time! Lauren x
