Arthur’s Seat – Edinburgh

Blogger: Stephanie Lynch

Recently, OnTheQT spent a few days in the busy city of Edinburgh. While exploring the wonderful city, we noticed Arthur’s Seat. We were amazed that a little gem like this was located in the city centre of Edinburgh, about a mile to the east of Edinburgh Castle. It is almost as if you are stepping into the countryside for a hill walk, while still being in the centre of Edinburgh. The hill itself rises above the city to a height of 250.5m and the we found it very climbable(not a very difficult climb but still challenging). You can climb Arthur’s Seat at almost any direction(so if you are looking for a more difficult climb you can find a suitable route). We weren’t ready for a big climb so we started at the Dunsapie Loch which is the easiest route to approach the climb on(we did have our camera etc so we used that as an excuse to go up the easy route). We set out on our hike, admiring the views and challenging ourselves as we climbed higher and higher. (QT Tip: Be sure to pack appropriate footwear for the climb as it can get rocky as you move up towards the top).

As you reach the top, you cannot help but be amazed. The unbelievable panoramic views of the city will take your breath away. We would suggest doing it on a day when it isn’t cloudy as you will have better views with a clear sky. We picked a great day and the views in every direction when we reached the top were spectacular. Be sure to take a minute to yourself and just breath in the fresh air and admire the good things in life. The parts of life that take your breath away.

Life’s a climb but the view is great
